GDC Doda organizes an Awareness Lecture to celebrate
National Cancer Awareness Day
To celebrate National Cancer Awareness Day an awareness lecture was organized by the NSS Unit and NCC (Navy wing) of the college under the aegis of IQAC and banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Scientist Marie Curie, as her discovery of radium and polonium led to the development of radiotherapy in cancer treatment. The event was organized under the able guidance and patronage of Dr. Attar Singh Kotwal, Principal of the college. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Gagan Deep Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology, GMC Doda. He highlighted the importance of early detection and diagnosis for the prevention of cancer disease. He spoke in depth about the various types of cancer and much needed life style changes to prevent such type of disease. About 70 students and volunteers joined this lecture and they asked a lot of questions to the resource person to satiate their curiosity. The organization of such type of events, encourages the young minds for adoption of healthy life style and stay away from the menace of drug abuse and smoking. At the end of lecture, the principal of the college lauded the efforts of the organizing committee and motivated the students to adopt healthy life habits. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Sumit Kotwal, NSS Programme Officer of the College. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Sub-Lieutenant Prof, Zain Batt, NCC (Navy) ANO of the college. The awareness lecture was also attended by Prof. Akrity Parihar, Prof. Purnima Manhas and Dr. Tasir Sharief.
